Irrigation Pumping Plant Efficiency

چکیده
Rising energy costs have increased the cost of pumping to the point that many farmers are finding irrigation to be unprofitable or only marginally profitable. Fortunately, however, pumping costs are an item that farmers have some degree of control. Pumping costs often are higher than they need be for two reasons: 1.) more water is pumped than is necessary, and/or, 2.) the pumping plant operates inefficiently. This fact sheet considers only the second problem; inefficient pumps.

A PSO-based Optimization of a fuzzy-based MPPT controller for a photovoltaic pumping system used for irrigation of greenhouses
The main asset of this paper is among the uses of fuzzy logic in the engineering sector and especially in the renewable energies as a large alternate of fossil energies, in this paper a PSO-based optimization is used to find the optimal scaling parameters, of a fuzzy logic-based MPPT controller, that maximize the efficiency of a photovoltaic pumping system. The tuning of input and output parame...
متن کاملTraditional and New Approaches to Irrigation Scheduling in Vegetable Crops
Intensive vegetable cropping systems use large amounts of water and nutrients. Excess application of water and nutrients results in economic losses (higher fertilizers and pumping costs) and contributes to nutrient leaching and environmental degradation. Increasing nutrient use efficiency (NUE) and water use efficiency (WUE) should be a priority for sustainable horticulture. This increased NUE,...
متن کاملSorghum Management Practices Suited to Varying Irrigation Strategies: A Simulation Analysis
Increasing pumping costs and declining well capacities in regions like the Southern High Plains of Texas are requiring producers to adapt cropping practices for usewith irrigation levels that vary between complete replacement of crop evapotranspiration (ET) to none (i.e., dryland production). Grain sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] is a crop suited to both dryland and various deficit irriga...
متن کاملIrrigation efficiency and water-policy implications for river basin resilience
Rising demand for food, fiber, and biofuels drives expanding irrigation withdrawals from surface water and groundwater. Irrigation efficiency and water savings have become watchwords in response to climate-induced hydrological variability, increasing freshwater demand for other uses including ecosystem water needs, and low economic productivity of irrigation compared to most other uses. We iden...
متن کاملAssessment of energy efficiency in pump stations of pressurized irrigation systems (case study: Qazvin and Kermanshah provinces)
About 20% of the electricity produced in the world is consumed in rotary equipment for conveying fluids such as water, gas, air, and other liquids, while the loss of energy consumption in this sector is more than 60%. The aim of this study is to evaluate different efficiencies in the pumping stations in the pressurized irrigation systems to address low energy efficiency issues in the pump stati...
